Making Our Voice Heard
NIF’s growth over the last few years demonstrates a desire from an increasing number of British Jews to have their voices heard in defence of a shared and tolerant society in Israel. It is, therefore, a testament to our supporters that we have just enjoyed our most successful fundraising year in the UK to date. As our recently published audited accounts show [available here], we raised a total of £2.76 million, a 40% increase from our previous record year. This has allowed us to secure unprecedented levels of funding for the organisations and initiatives on the ground delivering real change in Israeli society today.
Over half of our grants went to projects advancing shared society in Israel – creating safe spaces for dialogue and engagement between all sections of Israeli society, and working to empower individuals to control their own lives while peacefully co-existing with their neighbours. In the face of renewed legislative efforts to limit minority rights, increased pressure on democratic values and an undermining of social diversity in Israel, this represents a strong collective statement of support for this vision of Israel.
In thanking you for contribution to this success, I would like to re-iterate two of our core commitments to our community. The first is our commitment to transparency – explaining how we use the generous donations we receive. The simple infographic below provides an overview but do please ask about the details.
Our second commitment is to be a positive, powerful and responsible leader in our community. In the current environment where Israel seems to become an increasingly divisive issue within our community, NIF is aware of the power of our voice and the relevance of our work. Our approach is to be a strong and sincere advocate for the democratic Israel we all hold dear, and to be unafraid of exposing difficult issues in a way that does not add to the bile and bitterness that is increasingly permeating into the discourse.
As always, thank you for helping us make our voice heard.
