Since its founding in 1979, New Israel Fund has granted more than $200 million to 800 organisations in Israel. All of our grants go to Israeli non-governmental organisations based within the Green Line. None of our grants support partisan political activity.
New Israel Fund is a cutting-edge grant-maker, ready to take on issues other funders won't address. By investing early in new organisations, we help them get started, providing the seed money to grow and ultimately become self-sufficient. When New Israel Fund's support is only a small percentage of an organisation's budget, the organisation receives a final grant, and funds are subsequently freed up to support other new, young organisations.
New Israel Fund also provides sustained support to a smaller group of successful organisations, which demonstrate their effectiveness over the long-run at addressing some of the most deep-seated problems affecting Israeli society.
To complement its grant-making, the New Israel Fund established SHATIL (seedling in Hebrew) in 1982 to provide technical professional assistance to Israel's social change organisations. As a capacity-building centre for grassroots organisations, SHATIL provides tools that empower its clients to improve their lives and communities and build institutions to promote long-term social change. SHATIL also reaches out to constituencies on the economic and geographic periphery, helping them create and run their own programs when existing institutions fail to act and maximizing their strength by building coalitions among them.
