Prime Ministers support New Israel Fund
Kick Racism Out of Israeli Football campaign.
March 2007
Tony Blair and Ehud Olmert have both issued statements in support of New Israel Fund's campaign to Kick Racism out of Israeli Football. The support has come in the run up to next weekend's landmark fixture, at which New Israel Fund will be taking a delegation of 100 supporters. The campaign has been publicly endorsed by leading players, ex-players and FA officials (both England and FA) but never by such prominent politicians.
Prime Minister Tony Blair lauded the initiative. In his statement he said that the campaign, "...has been, and continues to be, a very high profile and successful initiative, leading the way for Israeli football. This sentiment was echoed by Israeli PM Ehud Olmert who, "as an avid football fan" spoke of how he values, "the partnership between the FA and New Israel Fund in applying the lessons learnt in Great Britain to the 'Kick Racism and Violence out of Israeli Football" campaign
Dan Berelowitz, campaign co-ordinator for New Israel Fund UK said, "The support of Prime Ministers Blair and Olmert shows how far the Kick Racism out of Israeli Football campaign has come in the past 3 years. We hope their impetus will take the fight against racism both inside the stadium and in society in general, on to the next level."
