One Year After the Second Lebanon War – Immigrants and Other Israelis Coping with Rehabilitation that is Slow to Come

Screening of a short documentary film “Against All Odds” – The Story of Renata Shlomov, an immigrant to Israel from the Caucasus Mountains with guest speaker Lev Aran.

Renata was interviewed on Israel TV as part of a series on Social Activists sponsored by New Israel Fund, talking about the difficulties of the Caucasus community in Israel.  She leads a project called “Sakhbak” in Sderot – Israel’s “front” with Gaza - that encourages and supports immigrant youth as they try to ‘make it’ within Israeli higher education and become role models for younger immigrants at-risk.

Lev Aran immigrated to Israel with his family in 1971.  He has dedicated his life to working with new immigrants, and in 2006 joined Shatil, New Israel Fund’s operational arm, monitoring government commitments and advocating for fair and just reconstruction of the North during the post-Lebanon War period.
