A talk with Hussniya Jabara

Must it take a Zionist party to elect an Arab woman to the Knesset?

June 27, 2006

Hussniya Jabara spoke to an audience of approximately 60 people at The House of Commons.

Mrs Jabara defines herself as the first Israeli Palestinian woman to have entered the Knesset.

Hussniya spoke about her life journey. She was born into a large and poor family, married relatively young, as all Arab women are excepted to, but with the support of her father and her husband and a great deal of self aspiration she managed to graduate from University and take on a career in politics. Hussniya became the first and only Arab woman to be elected to the Knesset.

In 1991 she was voted 1 out of 10 most influential woman in Israel by Globes, Israel leading business newspaper.

Hussniya is still very active in public life. She fights for woman's rights and is a great advocate of peace in Israel and the middle east.
