Social institutions, traditions and religious laws have kept girls and women at
a disadvantage in schools, in the workplace, in divorce cases, and as victims
of violence. Israeli women in minority and disadvantaged groups have
disproportionately high rates of unemployment, poverty, health problems and
abuse of basic rights.

Join New Israel Fund and its panel of social activists to learn about the landmark achievements NIF and its grantees gained in legislation, empowerment and equal opportunities for women in Israel.

The Panel:

Dr. Hannah Kehat

Founder and first chairwoman, Kolech: The Religious
Women’s Forum.

Shahira Shalabi

From Shatil, NIF`s Initiative for Social Change, and co-founder of Kayan – advancing the status of Arab women in Israel.

Ilana Bakal

Former Executive Director and co-founder, Achoti (My Sister)
for Women in Israel – for empowering marginalised women.

Chair: Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner

Born in London and lived in Jerusalem for fifteen years working in Jewish education, with Christian visitors to Israel and in Palestinian-Israeli dialogue. Laura was ordained at Leo-Baeck College in 2004 and has worked at Alyth since 2003.
