In Praise of Liberal Zionism

Is it possible to be a political liberal or social progressive and a Zionist at the same time? For the founders of the Jewish state, a positive answer was self-evident, and yet today there are many people, at either end of the political spectrum, who argue that the very phrase “liberal Zionist” is an oxymoron. Our discussion will examine the political, social, cultural, and emotional issues bound up in this dismaying polarisation, and suggest constructive ways of addressing the problem.
