Overview

The New Israel Fund works to strengthen Israel’s democracy and to promote freedom, justice and equality for all Israel’s citizens. Since 1979, New Israel Fund has been a leader in building a just and strong Israel, believing that Israel’s strength depends as much on its commitment to democratic principles as on its ability to defend itself against physical and military threats.

A philanthropic partnership of Israelis, North Americans and Europeans, New Israel Fund is dedicated to defining the cutting edge of social change. In the 1980s, New Israel Fund sparked the growth of Israel’s social change movement, seeding civil rights organisations that served as a bridge between people at the margins of Israeli society – women, non-Orthodox Jews, Mizrachim, Arabs, people with disabilities, gays and lesbians - and their government. In the ‘90s, New Israel Fund grew into the largest supporter of social justice NGOs and spearheaded efforts to liberalize religious practices for non-Orthodox Jews; to put issues of rape and spousal abuse on the public agenda; and to seek an end to discrimination for Israel’s one million Arab citizens.
