| How we work
Grant-making
Since its founding in 1979, New Israel Fund has granted more than £80 million to 700 organisation in Israel. All of our grants go to Israeli non-governmental organisations based within the green line. None of our grants support partisan political activity.
New Israel Fund is a cutting-edge grantmaker, ready to take on issues other funders won’t approach first. By investing early in new organisations, we help them get started, providing the seed money to grow and ultimately become self-sufficient. New Israel Fund also provides sustained support to a smaller group of successful organisations, which demonstrate their effectiveness over the long-run at addressing some of the most deep-seated problems affecting Israeli society.
SHATIL – Technical Assistance
To complement its grant-making, the New Israel Fund established SHATIL (seeding in Hebrew) in 1982 to provide technical assistance to Israel’s social change organisations. As a capacity-building centre for grassroots organisations, SHATIL provides tools that empower its clients to improve their lives and communities and build institutions to promote long-term social change. SHATIL also reaches out to constituencies on the economic and geographic periphery, helping them create and run their own programs when existing institutions fail to act and maximizing their strength by building coalitions among them.
Other Programming
To develop leadership for Israel’s public interest sector, the New Israel Fund sponsors fellowships and internships for Israelis interested in public service. Its Law Fellows are the leaders of Israel’s public interest legal community today and its internship programs provide expanded opportunities for students in Israel to engage in community service. New Israel Fund also promotes its mission through an extensive program of public education and community building both in Israel and abroad.
