Popular Opposition to Gender Segregation Mounts
The campaign
to abolish gender separation in Israeli public places led by the NIF family
continues apace. A rally in Beit Shemesh
organised by several organisations including NIF grantee Yisrael Hofshit
(Free Israel), attracted thousands of protesters and received massive
coverage in the Israeli and international media.

Jerusalem March Protests Escalating Racism Against Israeli-Ethiopians
Several
thousand Israelis rallied near the Knesset to protest the first-ever formal
attempt to prevent property being sold or rented to Ethiopian-Israelis. With
support from NIF and SHATIL, the demonstration was organised by Ethiopians
United - an ad-hoc Facebook group of young Israeli-Ethiopians.

Arab and Jewish Teenagers Participate in Arts Master-Class
Thirty-two
Arab and Jewish students aged 15-18 from peripheral regions in Israel took part
in a unique arts master-class in Tel Aviv. The five hour session, which
involved some of Israel's leading artists in the fields of opera, music, dance
and drama, was organised by leading soprano Yael Cherniavsky, with support from
NIF.

"Your Grandfather Was a Refugee Too"
In response to
the Illegal Migrants Bill, which allows asylum seekers to be imprisoned for
three years and those assisting them for up to 15 years, NIF's Don't Remain
Silent Campaign put a collage of MKs on its Facebook page.

100 attend NIF UK Israel Question Time
A good crowd packed
into Belsize Square Synagogue for a lively discussion of issues relating to
Israel including the peace process, democracy and our relationship with Israel
as a Diaspora community.
