The New Israel Fund has enjoyed its most successful year to date
- Press Release –
The New Israel Fund – the leading organisation advancing democracy and equality in Israel – has enjoyed its most successful fundraising year in the UK to date. A total of £2.76 million was raised in 2017, a 40% increase from their previous record year.
This huge boost in donations meant NIF was able to secure unprecedented levels of funding (£2.41 million) for organisations and initiatives on the ground delivering real change in Israeli society today.
Over half of grants went to projects advancing shared society in Israel – creating safe spaces for dialogue and engagement between all sections of Israeli society, and working to empower individuals to control their own lives while peacefully co-existing with their neighbours.
One organisation that has benefited from NIF funding and support this year is Tag Meir [pictured], a group whose initiatives to tackle violence and hate crime against minority groups in Israel have seen a huge increase in public support. In 2017, Tag Meir were able to make real progress in getting authorities to crack down on perpetrators of racism, and in advancing inter-communal tolerance through education and advocacy.
Adam Ognall, Chief Executive of NIF UK, said ‘Our success represents a desire from increasing numbers of British Jews to have their voices heard in defence of a shared and tolerant society in Israel. In the face of renewed legislative efforts to limit minority rights, increased pressure on human rights and an undermining of social diversity in Israel, these figures clearly show that supporters of Israel in the UK are making a strong collective statement.’
