Limmud 2016 a Fantastic Success
NIF had a great time at Limmud 2016 in Birmingham. We were privileged to be joined by Mutasim Ali, Sudanese refugee and social justice leader in Israel, who to spoke to over 500 people about the issues currently facing Asylum Seekers in Israel, and our team also ran a number of sessions on topics including identity politics, economic gaps in Israeli society, and what the UK can learn from Israeli shared society.
Mutasim graciously addressed a crowd of hundreds at a daily chanukah lighting, saying ‘I invite you to be there for those who are still going through persecution and discrimination… to be out there for those less fortunate is what makes us human. As Albert Einstein said, the world will be destroyed not by those who do evil, but by those watching them without doing anything’.
If you missed hearing Mutasim speak, or just want to hear more, check out this recording of Mutasim reading poetry as part of a late nigh Jazz and Poetry session.
