Celebrity Chef and Israeli Big Brother Finalist at Gefiltefest 2017
After the roaring success of bringing the winner of Israel’s Masterchef 2014, Nof Atamna-Ismaeel, to Gefiltefest last year, New Israel Fund will be back again this year with celebrity chef Futna Jaber.
Israeli Big Brother finalist Futna Jaber was born in Tayibe in Central Israel, the first child of a large Arab-Israeli family. She hosts a regular cookery show ‘Opening the Table with Futna’ on Israel’s Channel 10, is the author of ‘From Futna’s Kitchen’ a cook book which highlights the traditional Arab-Israeli cuisine of her family, and owns a small Tel Aviv based hummus restaurant with her husband that’s been running for 21 years. She is also currently working on a kitchenware range under her name.
Futna believes that food has the capacity to bring people together across the Jewish-Arab divide, to open hearts and bond families. Says Futna: ‘Kitchen is home and food is the glue… I learned this from my mother and grandmother as I crawled beneath their feet and between the pots.’
Futna has been involved in a meal-sharing project supported by New Israel Fund that invites Arab and Jewish families to each others’ homes for a shared meal.
Join us on Sunday 25 June at Europe’s biggest Jewish Food Festival.
