Negev Neighbours Get-Together

With the existence of the unrecognised Negev Bedouin village Amra-Tarabin threatened by the expansion of the Jewish town of Omer, New Israel Fund grantees Negev Coexistence Forum and Regional Council for Unrecognised Negev Arab Villages (RCUV) organised a visit by dozens of Omer residents to the homes of their Bedouin neighbours last month.

NIF Family Protests Welfare-to-Work Programme Expansion

As the global recession worsens, unemployment has risen sharply in Israel due the declining export market for Israeli goods and services. Following the government’s announcement that it will extend the “Employment Lights” (formerly known as the Wisconsin Plan) welfare-to-work programme to the entire country in order to combat unemployment, four members of the New Israel Fund family wrote a letter of protest, explaining the unresolved issues with the programme to new Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz

Gentrification in Israel’s Mixed Cities: Realities and Challenges

“A city is built for its citizens – a concept so simple but so far removed [from reality]” said Hadash MK Dov Khenin regarding the current reality faced by the Arab residents of Israel’s mixed Arab-Jewish cities. Khenin was one of some 15 speakers at the recent Land Day conference, Housing and Land Deprivation in Jaffa and other Mixed Cities – the Reality and the Challenges, hosted by New Israel Fund grantee Al Rabitha (League for the Arabs of Jaffa).
