Jews Bring Passover Message of Peace and Coexistence to Umm El Fahm

For the second time in two weeks there was an atmosphere of expectation in Umm El Fahm. Towards late afternoon on Sunday 5th April, Jewish Israelis began arriving in the Arab city – young and old, Orthodox and Secular, veteran Israelis, new immigrants and Diaspora volunteers. In contrast to the previous march, these 300 Jewish visitors brought goodwill and the desire for joint living, and not hatred and incitement.

SHATIL Welcomes New Environmental Protection Minister

As Environment Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) was sworn in last Thursday, he was welcomed by a SHATIL initiative: articles by leading environmental activists laying out their hopes, agendas and advice. The initiative was a collaboration between SHATIL and the Hebrew language website, Hasviva (the Environment).

New Israel Fund Wins Inaugural Presidential Award for Combating Trafficking

Veteran New Israel Fund grantee Hotline for Migrant Workers in Israel has been awarded the inaugural Presidential Prize for Combating Human Trafficking. At a ceremony at the presidential residence in Jerusalem on Sunday night, President Peres and outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made the presentation to Hotline for Migrant Workers, former MK Zahava Galon and the Tel Aviv Police Department for their work in combating trafficking and helping the victims.

New Israel Fund 2007 Human Rights Awards Winner Continues to Fight For Workers’ Rights.


Migrant workers in Israel are required by the Interior Ministry to obtain permission from their employers if they wish to travel to their countries of origin during their period of work in Israel. This permit is called “intervisa”.
